Roman spelling is ambiguous — s can be س ص ث, t can be ت ط ٹ. Words with a dotted red border are guesses: click any word to correct it, and Al-Qalam remembers your choice. Capitals are hints: T→ٹ D→ڈ R→ڑ S→ص H→ح A→ع Q→ق.

Custom font

There is no libre Thuluth, Diwani or Muhaqqaq font. If you own one, load it here and it becomes a full hand with kashida, tashkeel and export support.

Bring in a composed piece — a Thuluth levha, a traced panel, a commissioned vector — and let Al-Qalam supply the ground, the gold, the frame and the export. SVG or PNG. Flat black-on-white scans are converted to transparency automatically.

A grid designer, not a text converter — in banna'i the letterforms are reproportioned for every composition, which is why every square-Kufic tool is an editor. What can be automated is the geometry: strokes one unit wide with one-unit gaps. Turn on Edit, then drag on the artboard to draw.

Word spacing 0.00 em

Word spacing is safe on Arabic. Letter-spacing is not — it prises apart the cursive joins — so Al-Qalam does not offer it.

Alignment محاذاة

Applies to the text inside the sheet. Justify here spaces words to both edges; for calligraphic justification that stretches the joins instead, use Kashida.

Elongation 0%

Stretches the joining strokes at the points a calligrapher would choose — before the final letter, after kāf, along the flat-bodied letters. Never inside a lām-alif ligature.

Features a font does not implement are ignored, so these are always safe to try. dlig on Amiri unlocks its display ligatures.

Into Word: “Copy image” always keeps the calligraphy exactly. “Copy for Word” stays editable but needs the font installed first. DOCX gives you both in one file.
